Portland Fashion Week: 1st Night

Portland Fashion Week Fall 2013 was full of local designers, boutiques and bloggers who all showed up in their best dressed outfits to celebrate our Portland fashion scene. We may not draw in the likes of Chanel or Marchesa (could you imagine Marchesa dropping in Portland?!) but there is something to be said about our local talent and supporting our community of artists and dreamers.
I was asked to be a representative of the PFW Style Collective, a group of bloggers who got the most delightful VIP treatment for the weekend. Sitting front row was quite the experience, I captured (err, tried to capture in that light) my favorite looks from the runway that night. Photo above via Sam.
(my blogging bestie and I)
Courtney rocked this gown! One of my models from Jade Rose Collection back in the day :)

THESE PANTS!!!!
 It was a blast and I am already looking forward to the next show, maybe I'll fly in from London for it!!
MANY more photos and candids like the photo below will be on our fanpage posted in this album!
Thank you PFW!! What was YOUR favorite look?!

What I Wore: Fall Outfit

Portland Street style by Jade Rose Blog
Portland, Oregon was beginning to see Fall... and then it laughed in our faces and brought the blaring sun back! It was 97 degrees today (the band? no...) which is just too hot for this Portland girl.
Can I get an amen?! (no? mmmk.)
I'm taking an easy transition into Fall with petite layers, keepin' it classy in high waisted shorts and a fitted blazer.
PS: I am going to start including the opportunity for you to purchase what I wear at the end of each blog post! I'll include a splurge vs save option for everyone!

Blazer: H&M (similar) // Button Up: BP old (similar) // High Waisted Shorts: thrifted (here) // Wedge Booties: Forever21 old (here) // Bow Purse: Thrifted Juicy (similar) // Gold spike necklace: H&M (c/o)

How to Shop Smart: The Thrift Shop

Thrift shops, Vintage clothes, clearance sales—I shop them all. I shop smart (Thank you, mom!)
Having always been on a tight budget, clothes and shoes were a luxury growing up. My mother and father taught me as a child to save, and if I were to spend, to make sure it was really worth those hours I spent doing chores.
Thrift shops were introduced to me at a young age.... let's be honest, my toddler clothes came from Goodwill or were hand-me-downs, so I've always been a Thrift Shop kid. I just happen to be the adult version of that now ;)
I have since developed my version of smart shopping, which is quite easy in Portland, Oregon.

~~~~~
*I sell what I do not wear so that I can buy (Thank you Buffalo Exchange for existing!)
*I shop second-hand stores like Salvation Army & Goodwill (although Goodwill is getting pricey these days!)
*I take time to go through sale/ clearance racks
*If I am not 100% sure of an item or if I have any doubt on it's look/ fit, I do not buy! (We all know that is the item to sit in our closets forever.)
*Normal priced items at normal stores (ie: Nordstrom, H&M, etc) I do purchase from time to time; however, I must wear the item as many times as the dollars it costs. So if a skirt is $30, I must know I will wear it at least 30 times. If not, it's not worth the buy.
*Local/ Handmade/ quality items I will pay full price on, so I save these for staple wardrobe pieces that I know can be worn over and over :)
I have shared my shopping secrets! I hope you find them helpful! I would love any suggestions you have as well!
