How to Style Vintage Faux Fur Coat

This vintage faux fur coat, circa 1950's/1960's (my guess) was the best charity shop find, ever. I have been looking for 2-3 years for the perfect cream/ neutral faux fur coat. So I was thrilled to find this one. The reason I took 2-3 years to find a coat is because the fit of faux fur needs to be spot on with your body type, otherwise you run the risk of looking like a football player with massive shoulders ;) Among other things. My favorite part of the coat is the oversized collar, it allows me to create different necklines as pictured below, totally changing the look.

Styling faux fur is just as important as styling the plain white tee. It needs to fit well, not be too baggy that you look bigger, but tailored in all the right places. Although this will look fab with a dress, it's best to play down the drama of a faux fur maxi with skinny trousers and classic heels.
1. Keeping the faux fur scrunched up around your neck helps take some bulk off the body.
2. Draping the collar of your coat to rest a few inches away from your neck (the opposite of the first tip)   creates a great frame for your face and neck. I always let it slide down my back a bit, about 4-5 inches form the nape of my neck, it keep the weight of the coat away form my shoulders.
3. Wardrobe styling faux fur is pretty fun, for every day wear, just throw it on over some skinny jeans or trousers with your favorite tee and black heels.
Happy Styling!! Let me know if you have any questions!!

  1. Love the hint of cheetah under the coat complemented by the frames, looks classic. Faux Fur Coats are always in style!
